WHAT IS A LICENSED ROOF PLUMBER?

A Licensed Roof Plumber in Tasmania is someone who has undertaken training within the Roof Plumbing industry and education system to complete their work to a high standard of quality to meet customer and industry expectations and in accordance with the Australian Standards Plumbing Code which also includes Roof Plumbing.

In order to complete Roof Plumbing work under Tasmania's Occupational Licensing Laws, a Roof Plumber must have the three following forms of Licensing.
  • PRACTITIONERS LICENCE: A Certificate 3 in Roof Plumbing which is completed when someone undertakes a Roof Plumbing Apprenticeship allows them to operate as a Roof Plumber while working for a company. A Roof Plumber with a Practitioners Licence is not able to operate their own business.
  • CERTIFIERS LICENCE: A Certifier is someone who has completed a Certificate 4 course in Roof Plumbing which gives them a Certifiers Licence. This course teaches a Roof Plumber who has already undertaken a Certificate 3 Apprenticeship course about hydraulic design and more detailed requirements of the Australian Standards Plumbing Code. A Roof Plumber cannot operate their own business unless they have a Certificate 4 Qualified Roof Plumber.
  • CONTRACTORS LICENCE: In addition to the two licensed above, a Roof Plumber must also have a Contractors Licence which is a requirement under Tasmanian Occupational Licensing Laws.

TO SUMMARISE.

If you were to employ a larger roofing company that employs people to undertake your roofing work, a Roof Plumber with a Practitioners Licence will be required to undertake the work, the Company Owner or one of their Employees must have Certifier's Licence to check and certify that the work has been completed in accordance with the Australian Plumbing Code and the Company must also have a Contractors Licence to legally operate their business.

If the company you employed to undertake the roofing work was a single person operation, they must still abide by the same licensing requirements and have a Certifiers Licence and a Contractors Licence.

Please show your appreciation for our Associate Members & Industry Partners by supporting their business so they can continue their contribution to Master Roofers Tasmania.
